Charming and sporty, Pochacco is a cute little puppy loved by fans of everything kawaii! This small doggie was created by Sanrio, the maker of other super popular kawaii characters like Hello Kitty, My Melody, Cinnamoroll, and more. He is known for his passion for sports and his adorable friendship with his best buddy, Choppy, and pet duck, Peele. Even though he was born way back in 1989, this puppy remains forever playful and forever young!

MEET POCHACCO!

Pochacco, the "Hobby Hopper," is the cutest little doggie in the kawaii-sphere. Pochacco’s name comes from ぽちゃぽちゃ or “Pocha Pocha” which means chubby in English.

He might be adorably round, but don’t let that fool you! Pochacco is not a lazy dog. No, this superstar is a white, radish-loving pup known for his athletic enthusiasm! 

 

With his signature basketball jersey and his love for all kinds of sports, Pochacco is an energetic little pup who's always ready to play, making him a crowd favorite among Sanrio enthusiasts.

 

IS POCHACCO A BOY OR GIRL? 

Drumroll, please! Despite the adorably long lashes that could give anyone serious envy, Pochacco is actually a boy! That's right, our sporty, bouncy friend is a male pup. Who said boys couldn't rock those lashes, right?

 

THE MAKER OF POCHACCO

The mastermind behind Pochacco and his adorable world is none other than Sanrio artist Minoru Onoue. Pochacco was birthed from the same hands that created the group of cute cavepeople, Goropikadon! In the early years of his life at Sanrio, Pochacco was fondly referred to as "The Yorimichi Dog." POCHACCO'S KAWAII HOME

Pochacco was born in a cute little place called Uguisu Yokocho. That’s read as Nightingale Lane in English! These days, Sanrio’s sporty puppy lives in Uguisu Alley right outside Fuwa Fuwa Town. That’s where he hangs out with his buddies playing all sorts of fun sporty games! 

 

HOW OLD IS POCHACCO?

Did you know that Pochacco was actually born on February 29, 1989? That makes him more than 30 years old. Still, Pochacco is forever young at heart!

In fact, Sanrio characters aren't given specific ages so they can be enjoyed and related to by fans of all ages. So, let's just say Pochacco is eternally spry and young!

 

DOES POCHACCO HAVE A TAIL AND MOUTH? 

Even though Pochacco's design is pretty minimalist (one of the reasons we love him!), he does sport a teeny-tiny tail. But when it comes to his mouth - well, that's a bit of a mystery! Pochacco's creators decided to keep things simple and left his mouth out of the design. Guess he's just too cool for unnecessary details!

 

BEHIND POCHACCO'S CUTE LOOK

He might have a lot of looks now, but Pochacco was a lot like a puppy when he first debuted in 1989! Not only did he not have any clothes on, but he acted a lot like a dog without any human personality traits. This cutie started wearing cool outfits when he became more popular in the 90s! Pochacco’s look changed even more with thinner lines and a prominent mint green look starting 2017. 

 

WHO ARE POCHACCO'S FRIENDS?

Choppy

Everyone needs a BFF, and Pochacco's no different! His best buddy is none other than the sweet and kind-hearted Choppy, a mouse who's always there to cheer Pochacco on, from the sidelines of his basketball games to his various sporting adventures. Their bond proves that dogs and mice can, indeed, be the best of friends!

 

Popple 

Choppy isn’t the only special buddy that Pochacco has. Let's have a quick quack about Pochacco's flying friend, the duck named Popple! This cutie is a gentle and earnest honor student. Don’t stress her out too much though - once she panics Popple panics and slaps! 

 

Pi-Chans

The Pi-Chans are made up of three chick sisters named Piyo, Pico, and Peep. These cuties might seem a bit mischievous but they always charm people with their beautiful three-part chorus. 

 

Monmon

Momnom is a small and curious little squirrel. It loves new things and it collects all sorts of tasty treats like acorns and nuts. 

 

Samus

Sure, Samus the cat might be a little bit spoiled, but he’s loved by everyone. This cute tabby kitty is seen wearing a red shirt. 

 

Pochamii

This sweet little pup looks a lot like Pochacco with her white fur and black ears. Pochamii is a kawaii female dog character that’s often seen wearing a pink bow and a dress.

Pochacco is part of a special group in the Sanrio universe called Hapidanbui. This cute little unit is made up  of six of the cutest Sanrio boys. That includes Badtz-Maru, Tuxedosam, Pochacco, Hangyodon, Keroppi, and Pekkle.
